Nimbin - Kyogle NSW to Sunshine & Northern QLD coasts

We drove up into the hills from Byron Bay to checkout Nimbin (hippy capital of Australia since the Acquarius Festival in 1973) and Kyogle (where my Mum lived as a small child). Picture above was sunset at Kyogle showground camping ground.

From Kyogle we crossed the NSW border into QLD and headed to Caloundra (Sunshine Coast) to catchup with my old school friend Rob and his family). Rob's family were very welcoming; allowing us to park our caravan out front the first night, treating us to home cooked meals, and Ari socialising with their daughter Holly.

Next stop was the township of 1770, where Ari learnt to play pool! We stayed at a bush camp called Eco 1770 run by indigenous people.

Kayaking with Pedro at 1770.

Clairview was next stop - bit of a strange one for us - town was pretty much just the camp ground called Barracrab for, yep you probably guessed it - people into fishing and crabbing! Bit of rain here, so we didn't do much.

Ari and Pedro did have a go at a coconut though!

Proserpine was next campsite, so we could check out Airlie Beach - another QLD tourist Mecca!

We've recently arrived in Townsville, so I'll do a separate post on that later.
