3 weeks into trip (Batemans Bay, with side trip to Moruya)

We're now 3 weeks into our trip, and a few firsts in the last 24 hours.
As per above, I've seen the first decent surfable waves. This was at Moruya River Mouth (or "coastal bar"). According to one local I spoke with, it works very rarely. I didn't go in though, as it was rather cold, raining, we were some way from our caravan park in Batemans Bay, and I had Ari and Pedro in the car with me.
The other firsts:
 - Saw the aftermath of a 4-5 car crash on the Princes Highway. One car had its wheel and suspension ripped off entirely. This rattled me, as we are spending a lot of time on the road.
 - We (Ari and myself) had our first proper tiff. I won't go into detail, but Ari then took Pedro for a walk, while I got on with making dinner. This seemed to work well to defuse the situation, although I started to get worried about the other two after a while, given it was dark, and then the rain started. Thankfully they returned in good spirits and not too wet! This situation was quite sobering for me, as I knew the awesome start to our roadtrip wouldn't last forever.
 - Major weather event (relatively) to affect our travels - flood warning for Illawarra area, so we've stayed in Batemans Bay NRMA caravan site for an extra 3 nights in an attempt to avoid the worst of the weather. 
We visited the Moruya weekend market today - the pizza stall and seals lazing on the rocks of the river were the highlights.
Our "offgrid" experiment here at the caravan park is going well so far - 3 nights/days with no electricity or water connected, and we're down to 50% on both water and power. Given very little solar charging due to overcast conditions, we're pretty happy with this.

Townsville & Cairns via Mission Beach July 2024

We arrived in Townsville on the 29th of June and stayed until 2 July. Our caravan site ( Coral Coast Caravan Park ) was not in a great location (industrial), but we didn't have to drive to far to reach the waterfront esplanade and other locations. Next stop was Mission Beach, which was quite nice and relaxing. I even managed to book.myself a message, which was much needed after the many hours of driving! Our muchly anticipated arrival at the Cairns Tasman Cool Waters caravan park, where we were due to greet Kirstan and Zara off the plane, was a very nice surprise. The van park had a beautiful rainforest and stream running along side it, including turtles and fish. Ari insisted we invest in some flotation devices to share with the others, and this proved great fun! First morning

 We farewelled our family yesterday. There were tears. There were hugs. There were laughs. Joss was rather pumped, despite lack of sleep. Ari was in good spirits. Pedro was, well Pedro - loveable, fluffy, playful. The first road leg all went very smoothly. Drove from Mt Stuart from our lovely hospitable cousins place (where our caravan had spent the week being packed). We stopped in Campbell Town. Pedro offered to take over the driving. Joss decided he could manage, and declined the kind offer. Fuelled up on nachos for Ari and a chocolate moose for Joss. Brief rest in the caravan, then on the road again. Stopped in Sassafras for fuel. Then pulled up at Spirit of Tas departure point just after sunset. We had a long wait to board, so spent time walking the streets of Devonport, encouraging our white fluffy companion to go toilet! We eventually drove onto the boat, which set off around midnight. Eden to Bermagui

Bermagui has been another great coastal town - particularly love the beaches and rock formations in the area. Weather has been a bit cool, but I braved my first proper swim yesterday, which was refreshing! We scored another fantastic site at another "Reflections" caravan park (same as we stayed in Eden) - this one overlooking the beach. Ari and Pedro have particularly enjoyed rock hopping and exploring over the last 2 days. The ocean pools are something different for us, as we don't have these in Tassie. Another lovely sunset tonight... Pedro adding a nice white backing canvas to my rock cairn. Interesting walking around the docks this morning - a wide range of boats, and some history about the Bermagui Fishing Cooperative dating back to 1946.
